Neurodiversity Affirming Counselling in Brighton, Hove & Online

Being neurodivergent can shape the way you experience the world, your emotions, relationships, communication, identity and everyday life.

You may identify as autistic, ADHD, AuDHD, or otherwise neurodivergent, or you may be supporting a neurodivergent young person or partner. Therapy can offer a space to feel heard and understood and to make sense of some of your experiences. It can also offer space to explore identity, relationships, overwhelm and masking.

I offer a calm, safe space for neurodivergent adults and young people to explore what matters to them. You do not need a formal diagnosis to explore this in therapy.

Understanding Your Experience

You may have spent a long time trying to fit in, adapting to other people's expectations or masking parts of yourself in order to cope. Over time, this can contribute to exhaustion, overwhelm, anxiety, low self-esteem, burnout or a sense of becoming disconnected from who you are.

You might also experience sensory sensitivities, difficulty with change, executive-functioning challenges, emotional intensity, social exhaustion or cycles of overthinking. Relationships can sometimes feel complicated too, particularly when communication, boundaries or feeling misunderstood become difficult.

Together, we can make space to explore the impact these experiences may have had on your confidence, wellbeing and sense of self.

Identity, Masking & Late Recognition for ADHD and Autism

For some people, recognising themselves as neurodivergent later in life can bring both relief and uncertainty. It can also bring sadness, frustration or questions about earlier experiences and what might have been different with greater understanding and support. Therapy can offer space to explore the experiences of masking, adapting, feeling different or being misunderstood, as well as identity, self-acceptance and the impact of diagnosis.

Counselling can offer a compassionate space to make sense of your story, understand emotional regulation and develop a more accepting relationship with yourself.

Neurodiversity Affirming Therapy

Counselling can offer a space to explore and better understand your neurodivergent identity, including experiences of ADHD, autism, anxiety, stress, overwhelm, dysregulation, masking and burnout. We can work together to understand your individual needs, emotions, patterns and relationships, and explore ways of navigating life that feel more manageable and authentic to you.

It can also support you with self-esteem, confidence, self-acceptance, emotional regulation, relationships, family life, communication, school, work and other life transitions. If you are feeling anxious, overwhelmed or misunderstood, we can explore what is happening for you and consider strategies or adjustments that may help.

Sessions can be adapted to suit the way you prefer to work. You are welcome to share what makes therapy more accessible for you, whether that means more processing time, dimming the lights, moving about, less pressure around eye contact, or communicating in a way that feels more natural.

We can also explore how to support neurodivergent adults and children.

Who I Work With

I work with neurodivergent adults, children, tweens and teenagers, as well as people who are exploring whether neurodivergence may be part of their experience, including autism, ADHD, ADD and AuDHD.

I also work with parents and carers who support neurodivergent children.

Therapy is not a diagnostic assessment; it is a therapeutic space to explore your experiences, needs and sense of self.

I can adapt sessions to support your individual needs, pace and preferred way of communicating, creating a space that feels accessible and responsive to you.
